Chocolate, Cumberbatch, Cumberbunnies, London

Bunnydict-FVFox (1)A UK-based chocolatier had the fun (and brilliant) idea to craft and mold chocolate Easter bunnies in the shape of …a rabbit with Benedict Cumberbatch’s face.

The result is stunning, amusing and certainly bound to become a best seller as well as a marketing hottie. In any case, it will be interesting to observe the success of this story (the sales?) and the sprawl of what looks like a potential meme all around. Success key factors all here.

And it has also begun to inspire people around the blogosphere and the cyberspace (and I must admit I could not resist  and I plead guilty of changing within minutes some of the lyrics of the Ronnettes hit “Be my baby” . And yes I had fun doing so).

The subject, the idea, the raw material are so pleasant, how could one not want to comment on that?

All the fans of the actor remember the real-sized chocolate statue representing B.Cumberbatch (made out of 500 Belgian choc bars) exhibited in a London mall, in April 2015. The sculpture had been commissioned as a promotion for UKTV .

The sculpture ended up being eaten (not completely though) by fans and “Chocobatch” sprouted many a question and puzzled gazes among passerbys before they got the audacity to snap bits of chocolate, a finger here, the tip of the nose, a crease of the jacket… resulting in the statue disappearing rapidly. An incredible idea that has found today its sequel in these chocolate bunnies (The Cumberbunny, which wears a bow tie costs £50  or $70)

According to the Chocolatician  website (creator of these sinful treat) : it is “a delicious Belgian chocolate rabbit with a handsome face and a tasty bottom,  weighing 400 grammes, it is hand-glazed with edible lustre dust.”

Another good reason to love the talented Benedict Cumberbatch. Or chocolate. But who needs a reason to indulge in such pleasures?

So long, Folks and friends in chocolate

V&A and excerpts.

I like pretty much everything about the V&A.

I like the Antiquities department, and the displays about the Theatre , I like the exquisite tearoom, and the sculptures.

The Japanese art section is a marvel, and I recommend the netsuke collection, those little buttons attached to the belt to hold small items like purse, small boxes and other objects.

20120621_112537 20120621_112124 20120621_113218

My insomnia is finished, I have resumed my work, to put an end to this novel (5 chapters to go, oh my) about a guy who inherited a collection of Japanese Artifacts, and faces a mid-life crisis (no relation).

8 short stories have been selected and sent to my publisher. I wait for the “maquette”. We must discuss the format. Cover is chosen. The next step is soon there. Excitement, excitement!!

Here’s an excerpt of one short story : A Dinner At Tamanrasset Observatory

” They had endured a scorching sun; suffered soared muscles, their skin or feet had dealt with the tiny thorns of the cram-cram, this plague of the wanderer, they had  experienced almost freezing temperatures while sleeping in the open nestled in a bed of sand, they had eaten monotonous meals, peppered with sand, they had faced mechanical problems, helped fellow Saharians, met improbable people in improbable situation, got injuries from slipping, saw sudden walls of water carrying away their equipment. Sometimes, the immense silence had flooded their mind; as a result, they felt emptied of themselves, to have afterwards a sensation of being filled by the spirit of Nature.

Now they were sharing the Saharian brotherhood around a frugal yet delicious and unforgettable dinner under the stars.

The souvenir of the dinner in the middle of the desert, this coq au vin worth a 3 stars award remained unspoiled. Later, the story would be passed down to their children. They implicitly committed to a life-lasting friendship that night….”

keep you posted, dear fellow odd jobbers, providers of magical written words and beautiful art!

The sun is bright and the sky immensely blue, wishing you all a great day!

Parallel worlds

characters, deja-vu, meditation

Have you ever experienced it?

You write a scene with your fictional characters and bam! it happens in your life? Even when the two events occur one year apart? I mean, the scenes described occurred and everything fell exactly into place, what they do, or say (or say not). Or someone reads what you’ve written 18 months ago and just say : “Hey, I know that”, and you’ve just met them 3 months ago? (because we need to be read, right? it fuels our need to explain why we write, the reason of our being here, and makes sense when everything else just makes no sense at all).

Or you just put a certain set of information and details about some characters and they show up  for real? You meet people with those details in their life and they share it with you, things about them, things they do or have done, places they’ ve gone to, loooong after you created your fictional characters (like, 3 and 2 years ago….), and you think you’re trapped into the rewind thing of your dvd…

And it feels as if two parallels worlds have converged by chance (or is it?) into one event before continuing their own path, still parallel but bound to intertwine again…because you just happen to know it, deep down… see what I mean? Like, when you walk into a place and it feels just so familiar? You KNOW details about that place, even if it’s the first time you are here. As if your eyes and your body recognize it. This deja-vu impression may be quite disturbing or puzzling, I must say. Ever experienced it?

Weird, right?

Or is it just me?

Or is it normal, because the oddjobbers might have that “special” sensitivity/sensitiveness that makes them feel things long before they happen?

I am puzzled and baffled altogether, I must say.

Something of the kind just took place some days ago. And I had forgotten a good deal about what I had written in the 1st part of this drama, because I’ve edited it over a year now,and I am involved in other projects and in the second part of the drama…

Weeeiird.

Or is it because , having started to meditate, I see more clearly some aspects that were so buried inside me that, I kept stumbling upon, without even noticing there was recurring pattern?

I must find the samuraï within me and stop letting myself being troubled by such things, it’s ridiculous.

I must go back to my writings. No time to feel lightheaded.

I promise the next post will be more grounded and down to earth.

Happy day to you, dear readers, before this world ends in flames and chaos.

Fun at the Carter’s Steam Fair

Carousel, Carters Steam Fair, Merry go round, vintage fair

Want to experiment vintage sensations? Want to ride a horse on a jolly bonnie galloper platform? Fed up of ads for sodas, or phone operators plastered on every wall or panel while you’re having a ride on the bumping cars? Bored of plastic molded toy cars or boats of the thrill rides?

Try something new, and paradoxically enough,  try it vintage.

You’re ripe for the Carter’s Steam Fair experience!

After heavy showers, sun was shining again, and along with my London-based friends (who never even knew such a fair existed in the UK), I headed down to Dulwich (location changes and the Fair travels all around UK).

It took 25 minutes from Kensington by train and tube to reach the Fair .

(I told you it was sunny…well, with still some clouds here and there) And then, at last :

The yard was soaked and muddy, and ruined our trousers and our sneakers or flats in a minute, but as the sun was warming and the sky, bright blue, and the carousels were so lovely and vividly coloured, that we  chose to stay on a positive mindset.

Old wooden carousels or vintage tin cars merry go rounds, penny arcades, and mighty strikers attraction to challenge one’s strength, shooting stall or ball throws, everyone can enjoy the fair…

Even the candy floss tastes special here, like old child’s souvenirs of sugary candies and confections, coupled with the reminiscence of a scent of that powder used by a kind grand’ma with pink velvety cheeks.

Penny arcade : full of oldies goldies.

The bright shiny and glossy painted wooden gallopers provide an endless string of happy souvenirs attached with memories of forgotten moments, replaying as the retro music fills the air.

A wonderful micro-escape in time, among extremely exquisite gems of past days attractions.

Looking for something more goose pimply? Try the Chair-o-Plane or the Victory Dive Bomber for thrilling sensations.

We had a wonderful moment.

And we came back home, stopped for a LP at the pub around the corner, while waiting for our Indian take-away to be ready.  It all ended with an ep. of Mentalist, coupled by a hot cappuccino with a double dose of whipped cream.

It has been a lovely day.
